Cody Gohl of Sleepopolis

Meet the Team: Cody Gohl, Staff Editor at Sleepopolis

Cody Gohl is the staff editor at Sleepopolis, so spends his days taking a fine-tooth editorial comb to all the fantastic sleep content on the site. When he’s not poking around for misplaced commas or figuring out the absolute best way to write about insomnia, Cody likes to tweet sleep puns, research nightmares, and drink dangerous amounts of coffee. In addition to his work at Sleepopolis, Cody has written online for Next, The Manual, LOGOtv, Citylife, and Fandom. And though no one asked, he’d also like you to know that his hero and role model in life is Barbra Streisand.

Name: Cody Gohl
Home Town: Dallas, TX, baby!
Current City: Brooklyn, NY
Secret Talent: I don’t keep my talents secret.
Favorite Travel Destination: Sweet, gorgeous, and mountainous Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Tell us a little about what you do at JAKK Media!

As Sleepopolis staff editor, it’s my job to make sure all our content is fun, engaging, and, of course, incredibly well-written. To do this, I not only read/edit everything that goes up on the site, but also work with our writers to achieve consistency of tone and voice. When I’m not editing the house down boots, I’m also writing product reviews, heading up the brand’s News Vertical, and managing our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.

What’s a favorite project so far?

Hmm… I think I’d have to say revamping all the website copy for the brand relaunch. It was the first time I’d ever done a total writing overhaul like that, so it was super challenging and frustrating, but also gratifying once the site went live. Runners-up would be building the News vertical from the ground up and tweeting at Cher that one time (she didn’t reply).

What is something you think will change about digital content in the next five years?

All information will be dispersed in 20-word soundbytes by small robots implanted in our brains.

Are there any skills you want to learn or develop more at JAKK?

I’m eager to get more involved on the video side of things! I know how to jazz up a paragraph, but I’m interested to learn more about all the moving parts that go into making an excellent video.

All of JAKK’s sites feature collaborative teams. What’s something impactful you’ve learned from another person at JAKK Media?

Nick English and Jake Boly at BarBend have taught me a ton about dedication! They’re both so committed to the brand and work like dogs to make sure their content is always on point.

Favorite spot to eat in NYC/Austin?

Som Tum Der, the best Thai food in Manhattan. Period.
